Lavia suffered a setback in his recovery from injury. Due to an ankle injury, Lavia needed four months to make his Chelsea debut, coming on in the 58th minute in the win over Crystal Palace in December 2023.

But the midfielder suffered a significant thigh injury during that appearance and hasn’t played since. Chelsea released a statement saying: “Midfielder Romeo Lavia is to unfortunately miss the remainder of our 2023-24 campaign following a setback in his recovery”.
The Blues paid £53 million to sign Lavia from Southampton, formerly of Liverpool, last summer, but the midfielder has been plagued by injuries. The Belgian also sent a message to Chelsea fans.
“This has been a frustrating season for me, not being able to help my team-mates. I love this squad, this badge and being on the pitch more than anything ”, he started. “Trust that I have given my all every day to get back”, he added.
