West Ham midfielder Kalvin Phillips hopes the red card he received will be the end of his “bad luck”.

In an interview published on West Ham’s website, Phillips talked about his difficult start at the team. “They say bad luck comes in threes, so let’s hope I’ve had my three pieces of it and I can kick on now”, said the midfielder.

“I wanted this to be a fresh start, to really get my head down and go for it. It’s not gone as I would have hoped”, added Phillips. He was signed on loan from Manchester City in January, but has had a hard time since his debut.

After a mistake against Bournemouth and another error in the 3-0 defeat against Manchester United, Phillips was sent off in the second half of Saturday’s (17) defeat against Nottingham Forest after receiving two warnings in the space of two minutes and 56 seconds.

The midfielder will miss the next game against Brentford on Monday (19). “I’m just disappointed — more so because I’m working hard to get myself back into a position where I can help and now I’ve got to miss a game”, said Phillips.
