According to Telegraph Sports, Son suffered the injury before South Korea’s 2-0 semi-final defeat against Jordan on February 6. The discussion between teammates erupted after some of the younger members of the squad ate their meals quickly so that they could play ping pong.

Son didn’t like the fact that the players had left early, as mealtimes were seen as an opportunity for the team to bond. According to Telegraph Sport, the argument between the players led to Son injuring himself trying to calm the situation down.

An official from the Korea Football Association (KFA) confirmed the incident. “It happened when some young players went up to play table tennis, and Son Heung-min and other older players took issue with it. The players exchanged a few words and Son hurt his finger in the process”.

Son played the game the next day wearing a bandage on the middle finger on his right hand. He was still sporting the bandage when he played for Tottenham on Saturday (10), in the 2-1 win against Brighton.
