In a statement United said: “Further assessment is still needed to determine the severity but we expect him to be absent for a few months”. Shaw was initially hurt during the 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

But manager Erik ten Hag decided to pick him again in Sunday’s 2-1 win at Luton, and the left-back went off before the break with a muscle injury. Now United is without an available specialist left-back.
United opted to end the loan of left-back Sergio Reguilon in January, but Shaw’s replacement, Tyrell Malacia, has yet to play this season due to his knee injury. Center-back Victor Lindelof replaced him in each of the last two games, but struggled in the position.
Right-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Sofyan Amrabat have also been used at left-back this season. Shaw will certainly miss the friendlies against Brazil and Belgium in March, when Ben Chilwell could have the chance to replace him at Euro 2024 if he doesn’t recover in time.
