During the launch of Alpine’s new car for the 2024 season this Wednesday (7), Gasly said that he was “aware of [Hamilton having] some talks with Ferrari”. “He is towards the end of his career, so it was now or never”, said the French driver.

“But I think it was kept secret for a long time”, added Gasly. He refused to reveal how he knew about Hamilton’s move. Gasly is a close friend to Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, and also plays computer games with Hamilton.

The Alpine driver also expressed sympathy towards Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz, who is now out of a seat for 2025. “Carlos is a great driver, Lewis is a fantastic driver, best of all time. There was an opportunity on both sides and Ferrari and Lewis took it together. It leaves Carlos in a more tricky situation and it’s not easy”, said Gasly.
