Last year, Barkley and the G-Men explored the possibility of a long-term contract, but negotiations did not result in an agreement. As a result, Barkley played under the franchise this season.

After this season ends, Barkley, a six-year league veteran, will become a free agent. While the option of receiving the franchise tag is a possibility, he has expressed his preference to remain with the Giants. Barkley told the media on Wednesday, according to ESPN: “I’ve mentioned before that I want to be a giant for the rest of my life. That was a goal of mine when I was drafted. I wanted to leave a legacy here, but it’s out of my control.”

If Barkley is unable to meet his expectations contractually with the Giants, he has indicated he will consider exploring the free agent market. He shared his perspective, stating, “I just want something that’s fair. … But like I said, I get it. It’s a business. If it’s not here, I hope it’s somewhere else.” Barkley also highlighted the importance of this phase in his career, noting, “I know if I’m going to go on strike, I have to do it now. This is probably my last opportunity to get a second contract. After this, the way they see it and treatment of running backs isn’t really ideal if you look at it that way. I would definitely love to get a second deal.” The uncertainty surrounding Saquon Barkley’s future adds an intriguing layer to the Giants’ offseason, promising to be a period of great interest for the team’s fans.
