Last Monday (08), through an interview with the RTBF program, the CEO of Lotto-Dstny, Stéphane Heulot, declared that Visma-Lease A Bike tried to convince rider Andreas Kron to sign a new contract for the season 2024. The statement was made when the businesswoman was asked about the process in relation to Cian Uijtdebroeks.

“This type of process can end interest in racing. It becomes difficult to keep up with teams with bigger budgets and firepower three times ours. What I find distressing is that the coach of the host team is the president of the AIGCP, the team association. If you have a president who doesn’t follow the rules, it’s hard to trust him. They tried to do the same thing here with Andreas Kron. It’s boring and not in the spirit of cycling,” said Lotto-Dstny CEO Stéphane Heulot.

The businesswoman stated that the attempt to reach an agreement was carried out during the period when competitions were finalized. Furthermore, she condemned the practice of the sports category regarding new ways of transferring athletes to different teams, even citing the situation related to Cian Uijtdebroeks.
Asked about the reported data, Visma-Lease A Bike reported that Andreas Kron’s contract model had clauses allowing for a change of team and that the cyclist had approached the team about transfer options to compete in the WorldTour.
“Kron contacted us and claimed to have a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave if he went to a WorldTour team. However, it turned out that this was not the case, or at least his team disputed it, so we withdrew,” said the statement published about the situation. The pilot did not comment on the case.
