“I didn’t do anything crazy this winter, just normal training, without long hours, without crazy intensity because the most important thing for me was to build a good base and improve from now on to achieve my goals. If I take simple things, like not changing training, or not changing anything, just keeping it simple, as I’ve always done, I knew it would be a good basis for improvement, so that’s what I did”, said the athlete.

Since his return, Julian Alaphilippe has increasingly demonstrated his power, a fact that even the director of the Tour Down Under events, Stuart O’Grady, praised his performance on the courses, adding him as one of the favorite athletes who participated in the competition .

During the course, the cyclist was unable to place on the podium, however, in stage 5 he finished in fourth place and in the final stage, he remained in sixth place. His overall ranking was the same as his last match, 33 seconds ahead of one of the hardest-working competitors, Adam Yates.

“Maybe for many people it may be a disappointment, but for me I consider it a really big thing. I was more focused on my efforts. I was just focused on staying in the red zone and it’s been a long time since I struggled like that at this point in the race. I was very motivated to do my best and see how I felt, I was surprised that I could fight with the best to the top of the climb. It’s a good surprise to be honest”, concluded the athlete.
