The cancellation comes after the midfielder faced criticism, especially from gay rights groups, for joining a club in a country where homosexuality is illegal. He joined Al Ettifaq in the summer, and was paid around £350,000-a-week to play for the club.
The midfielder made 17 appearances for Al Ettifaq, and recorded four assists. He will join Ajax at one of the low points in the history of the club.
