The cyclist stated that the desire to return to the Giro d’Italia began when his season ended last year and that, now, with new training practices different from the previous ones, he feels prepared to participate in the competition again and, who knows, get a victory.

“Basically I’m going to participate in the Giro and the Tour. I really wanted to go back to the Giro after last year and try again. And obviously the Tour, I didn’t like missing it last year. So I will try to continue and enter the Tour and try to get the best result, or get in the best shape,” said Geraint Thomas.
To start the 2024 season, the cyclist will start competing in the Volta ao Algarve, between February 14th and 18th, shortly after which he will be in the Volta à Catalunya and Volta dos Alpes. In his calendar there will also be a period in which the athlete will be in the altitude camp in Sierra Nevada.
The discussion about being in the two biggest matches in the professional category was analyzed by the team and the former Ineos Grenadiers boss, Sir Dave Brailsford, which took a long time to be defined and agreed upon by everyone. However, Geraint Thomas reported that he was anxious about the decision and could not wait for the final answer.
“It got to a stage where I was like, ‘can we decide now, please’. It’s always been on my mind since last year, actually. This definitely turns me on. It definitely makes me anxious, but I think you need it, I think you need to be under a little pressure and know that it’s very important to compete with these two”, said the athlete.
