“I want to address this comment, not so much in relation to my personal life choices, but rather in relation to a pervasive thought pattern that I believe many people share and that I have faced over the years,” Nikki Spoelstra posted on her Instagram Story. “According to the often rude, ignorant and misinformed society, women do not have the ability to ‘win,'” she continued.

“They can’t be authentically in love with someone successful. No, they’re faking it and they’re just in it for the money. And if a woman chooses not to be with a successful partner, apparently she’s foolish,” said Spoelstra, who is also an ex -Heat cheerleader.

“I’m not just going to ignore this. Ignoring harassment over the years has taken a toll on my emotional health, and people need to understand how their words can affect others, not just me, but everyone in general. Please be kinder,” she concluded . The couple’s separation was announced in November, described as “amicable”, and both expressed a commitment to co-parenting their three young children. The marriage lasted seven years, as reported by the Miami Herald.
