The Washington Commanders announced this Monday (8) the dismissal of coach Ron Rivera following the conclusion of the team’s season, which ended with a 4-13 record, resulting in last place in the NFC East. During his four seasons leading the team, Rivera was unable to achieve a positive record, despite leading the Commanders to the playoffs in 2020 with a 7-9 record. Throughout his time as coach, the 62-year-old veteran has accumulated 26 wins, 40 losses and one draw.

Owner Josh Harris expressed his gratitude to Rivera in a statement, recognizing the coach’s contributions during challenging times and wishing the Rivera family the best in the future.
In addition to Rivera’s departure, the franchise announced additional changes. Harris and the Commanders hired Bob Myers, former general manager of the Golden State Warriors, and Rick Spielman, former GM of the Minnesota Vikings, as consultants in the search for a new director of operations and head coach. While neither will take permanent positions, they will form a committee to assist Harris. Myers, currently a basketball commentator for ESPN, will lead the committee, being responsible for identifying and conducting interviews with candidates for both positions. Spielman, with 30 years of experience as an NFL executive, is also a member of the committee. For the 2024 season, the Washington Commanders have the second pick in the Draft and a projection of considerable space on the payroll for signings.
