Chelsea forward Lauren James said that her hat-trick against Manchester United silenced “anyone who is hating”.

James scored all three goals at Chelsea’s 3-1 win this Sunday (21), and the team regained their three-point lead at the top of the Women’s Super League. The forward was the target of insults on the internet before the winter break and said she enjoyed celebrating her first goal in front of the United fans, who had been booing her until she opened the scoring after five minutes.

“Yes for sure [it was nice to silence them]. But for me it’s just about focusing on what I can do and silencing anyone who is hating as well. I’ve got to focus on myself and helping the team”, said James to BBC Sport after the game.
This was James second successive hat-trick in WSL games at Stamford Bridge, as she had already done it in the 5-1 win over Liverpool in November. “I really don’t know the answer to that. I just love scoring and I try and do that as much as possible to help the team win”, said James.
“It’s always tough playing against Manchester United, but with the fans behind us at Stamford Bridge we love playing here. Our performance from the start today, you could tell everyone was up for it”, added the forward.
