Last Tuesday (23), through an interview with France3, Arnaud Démare commented on the changes in direction that his former team, Groupama-FDJ, made in the final semester of last year. The cyclist stated that due to the action he felt betrayed and that he still has a feeling of disappointment.

“My feelings of anger are still present, as is my incomprehension. I have always been professional, I have always valued the team. I felt betrayed and unrecognized for everything I may have contributed,” said Arnaud Démare, reflecting on last year’s event.

The event that made Arnaud Démare change his view of the team occurred when the cyclist was informed, for the second time in a row, that he had not passed the trials to participate in the Tour de France. In the following days, Groupama-FDJ announced that the athlete was no longer part of the team.
The cyclist reveals that he does not fully understand what motivated the decision, as he always had the initiative to do his best and increasingly improve his performance. After the notification and the athlete still being upset with the action, the former Groupama-FDJ coach, Marc Madiot, approached him for a dialogue, however, Arnaud Démare did not agree to the conversation.
With the end of his contract, the athlete signed a new agreement with Arkéa-B&B Hotels and now feels he is capable of bringing new victories to the team: “Arkéa has never won on the Tour, I’ve already done it twice. I hope I can win again, I know I’m capable of it. That will be our goal next July.”
