“I still have many goals on the road, much less on the field. I don’t do cyclocross racing just to win again in Diegem. I want to peak once, in the World Championship, and if I don’t reach my level in the other races, like I did last year, so be it. I want to be world champion again”, said Mathieu van der Poel.

So far, the athlete has secured around five cyclocross world titles and, next year, he wants to obtain a sixth victory by winning the championship in Tabor, which will take place in February. Still in 2023, the cyclist is confirmed for the Exact Cross Mol, on December 22, in Belgium.

In a second interview with the website Sporza, Mathieu van der Poel reported that previously, one of the main reasons for being confirmed in so many matches was the objective of being able to beat Erik Vlaeminck’s record in which he holds seven world titles and, that this fact, of Somehow it still motivates you to pursue your goals.

“It’s one of the reasons I keep running. Other than that I don’t have many goals on the field. This record is a great challenge, but so is becoming world champion. If the team thinks I can reach a better level without crossing, then that is something to think about”, concluded the cyclist.
