Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois announced that he will not participate in Euro 2024 with the Belgian national team to prevent the injury he suffered in August from worsening.

It is worth remembering that the player tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during training.

“Due to the injury, there will be no Euros for me anyway,” commented the goalkeeper to Belgian agency Sporza.

“If I’m lucky, I’ll be able to play another match in May. But you can never be 100% ready for a big tournament,” he added.

With this, the goalkeeper also states that the current focus improves for Real Madrid.

“I know I have to stay focused on Real Madrid this season. And the European Championship is not part of the plans for a perfect return,” he informed.

Belgium is in Group E, along with Slovakia, Romania and one of the teams from Repechage B. The team’s next game is on June 17th, against Slovakia.
