Carlos Mendoza has played the role of bench coach for the Yankees for the past four years, and his last experience in the minor leagues came in early 2010. He is highly respected in the Bronx for his contributions to the rival team.

It is worth mentioning that, during the selection process, the Mets even considered Craig Counsell, who worked under the leadership of new president of baseball operations, David Stearns, at the Milwaukee Brewers, but Counsell opted to join their great rival, Chicago Cubs.
