Marc Madiot, the director of the Groupama-FDJ cycling team, argues that Novak Djokovic should face a suspension for refusing to take a drug test before a Davis Cup match.

Madiot highlights that, in cycling, not taking a test is equated to a positive result. “There are doping substances whose detection is only possible in an extremely limited period of time. If you do not submit to the test before the start of the competition, the time that has elapsed allows the elimination of traces of the substance. This is the reason for pre-race tests , this is not inadequate control”, he stated in an interview with RMC Sport.

“He refused to take the test before the competition, and if the anti-doping agency does its job, Mr. Djokovic should be suspended. In cycling, refusal to take a test is considered positive. And if it is positive, the punishment is necessary. You cannot deny a test; this is provided for in the regulations”, he added.
However, in tennis, the rules differ, allowing the player to request the test later, as long as they are accompanied by a representative of the anti-doping control team, as was the case with Djokovic.
