During the match against Belgium, Greenwood collided with Belgian forward Jassina Blom in the first half of the game. They clashed heads and fell to the pitch. Greenwood received treatment on the field for at least 13 minutes, including oxygen, before being placed on a stretcher and taken off. Blom was able to continue in the game with a head bandage, and was substituted in the 74th minute.

Even after left the game, Greenwood appeared to be conscious, and during the second half of the game the England team posted on social media that she was talking and being monitored by the medical department. After the match, manager Sarina Wiegman said that “Alex Greenwood is fine. I’ve not spoken to her or the doctor. She is walking around and is okay, but she has a concussion. It is good news that she’s walking and doing fine.”

When the collision occurred the match was 1-0 to Belgium, Laura de Neve’s goal. England turned the game around with goals from Lucy Bronze and Fran Kirby, and Belgium equalized with Tessa Wullaert in stoppage time. Wullaert scored again in the 40th minute, ending in a 3-2 Belgian victory.
