Upon receiving the award, Vinícius Júnior was praised by former Ivorian striker Didier Drogba for his firm stance against racism. The young player has faced constant racist incidents in opposing teams’ stadiums and has demonstrated a combative attitude towards this problem. He even stated that Spain, at least in global perception, has been associated with issues of racism, but he never publicly expressed his intention to leave the country.
At the event promoted by France Football magazine, Vinícius Júnior also found out which position he held in the best player in the world award. He came sixth, behind only Rodri (Manchester City/Spain), De Bruyne (Manchester City and Belgium), Mbappé (PSG and France), Haaland (Manchester City and Norway) and Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi (PSG/Inter Miami and Argentina).
