Last Wednesday (20), through social networks and official websites, Toon Aerts revealed that he will return to competitions in the category with the Deschacht-Hens-Maes team, shortly after his suspension and punishment due to doping comes to an end next year, specifically in February.

Apparently, the cyclist will start his calendar with the Exact Cross Sint-Niklaas race, on February 17, in Belgium. In interviews, the athlete also stated that he aims to participate in the Belgian Gravel Championship in Turnhout and to compete in road races, which will still be evaluated by his team.

In August of this year, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) announced the suspension of Toon Aerts for two years. The measure was adopted due to examination samples of the drug letrozole being found during anti-doping testing. Reports state that the substance was found in an examination carried out before last year’s UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships in Fayetteville, United States, in which it secured sixth place in the competition.

After the announcement, the cyclist denied any doping policy and has one month to modify the decision applied by the UCI, through the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The use of the reported substance is prohibited by the Association and is generally found in people who ingest anabolic steroids and may have the aim of increasing testosterone production.
