Last Thursday (21), through a statement on social media and official websites, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) approved the decision to terminate Cian Uijtdebroeks’ contract with Bora-Hansgrohe, as well as his transfer to new Jumbo-Lease A Bike team.

“The UCI has just approved the agreement in an urgent decision. This means that the current pilot contract between Cian Uijtdebroeks and Bora-Hansgrohe will be terminated by mutual agreement on December 31, 2023. Bora-Hansgrohe wishes Cian Uijtdebroeks the best of luck in the next stage of his career,” said the statement from his former team.

Ralph Denk, owner of Bora-Hansgrohe, stated that he was comfortable with the closure that the cyclist obtained: “I am pleased that the dust has settled and that the case is closed. The agreement shows that it is never too late for a reasonable personal discussion. I would like this case to remain an isolated incident for the entire cycling family, let’s respect contracts and rules, let’s be fair to each other.”

The statements and decisions made by the athlete and Richard Plugge, director of Jumbo-Lease A Bike, generated criticism around the category. Many reported that the team’s position was not positive given the contract that Cian Uijtdebroeks had with Bora-Hansgrohe, reiterating that the businessman was doing double duty in managing the team and the International Association of Professional Cycling Groups (AIGCP).
