Margot Robbie appears not to be disappointed after being snubbed at the 2024 Oscars for her work on “Barbie”. In a panel held at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) for the public (via Deadline), the actress thanked her fans for their support and praised the success of the film.

“There’s no way to be sad when you know you’re so blessed. People’s reactions to the film have been the greatest reward of this whole experience, whether it’s having a moment like this, or hearing it in the bathrooms, or seeing what people are writing online, or even just seeing how much pink I can see in this room right now,” said the actress.

“We set out to do something that would change the culture, affect the culture, make some kind of impact,” he continued. “And [Barbie] has already done that, and in some ways, much more than we ever dreamed she would. And that’s really the greatest reward that could come from all of this.”

However, Robbie lamented the fact that director Greta Gerwig was also not nominated for the Best Director award. “Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as director, because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing that she did. But it was an incredible year for all films.”

As a result, at the biggest film awards, “Barbie” competes in the hotly contested Best Film category and also in the Supporting Actor category, with Ryan Gosling, and Supporting Actress, with America Ferrera, among others.

However, Margot Robbie was snubbed from the Best Actress category, and director Greta Gerwig was left out of the Best Director competition, which sparked intense reactions on social media — and led to criticism from Gosling himself. 

“There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this historic and globally celebrated film,” said the actor.

Grossing US$1.4 billion around the world, Barbie was the biggest box office success of 2023, and has been an important figure in the awards season – including the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards.
