President Joe Biden will impose sanctions on Israeli settlers in the West Bank who have attacked and engaged in acts of violence against Palestinians in the region. The measure should be announced today (01) by the White House.

It is worth remembering that recently, the American leader had already spoken out against these clashes and attacks, which intensified after the Hamas attacks on October 7th in Israel, and promised that those responsible for the violence would be held accountable.

With this, Biden must lay the groundwork for imposing sanctions on individuals who have engaged in acts of violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.

Human rights groups also add that the settlers set fire to cars and attacked several small communities, forcing the population to retreat to other areas.

Also, according to data from the United Nations (UN), last year was the bloodiest on record in the occupied West Bank. There were 492 Palestinians killed by Israeli forces, 300 of them since the Hamas attacks, including 80 children. Almost all killed by lethal weapons.

Furthermore, the UN human rights agency described the situation in the West Bank in late 2023 as alarming and urgent. “Israeli forces have increasingly used military tactics and weapons in law enforcement operations. 

Law enforcement is governed by international human rights law, which prohibits the intentional use of lethal force except when strictly necessary to protect life,” it said.
