Rapinoe retired last year, on August 25, at age 38. She was one of three players to wear the Seattle uniform from the team’s debut in 2013 until the 2023 campaign. Her jersey is only the second to be retired by a National Women’s Soccer League team.

The former forward played 115 regular season games and 11 playoff games for Seattle. She scored 54 goals and assisted another 28, both team records. “It’s nearly impossible to put into words the impact Pinoe has had in this sport”, said Reign coach Laura Harvey.

The goalkeeper’s last game for Germany was at the World Cup in Qatar in December 2022 Neuer broke his leg shortly after and missed almost a year of football. It’s the first time in 15 months that he’s been called up to the team.

On Thursday (14), Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann said that there is still no decision as to whether Neuer or Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Barcelona’s goalkeeper, will be the team’s number one.

As well as celebrating his call-up, Neuer is also celebrating the birth of his first child on Thursday. “Manu will come back tomorrow and will stand in the goal inspired by fatherhood”, added Tuchel.

“Because maybe, my voice is still similar to how it was then. So I was like, maybe he knows, like a little bit that it’s me because it sounds like me. But it was a really magical moment. I took tons of pictures of it”, concluded Lindsay.
