At least six people lost their lives and 16 others were injured after a Russian missile attack hit a post office warehouse in the Kharkiv region of Ukraine, as reported by Ukrainian authorities.

According to Dmytro Chubenko, spokesman for the Kharkiv region prosecutor’s office, Russian forces fired two missiles from the Belgorod region, which is close to the border with Ukraine, aimed at “a building belonging to a logistics company located in the Kharkiv region” on Saturday the 21st. Chubenko added that search and rescue operations are ongoing, and the identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: “Terror and murder will get Russia nowhere. Terrorists will eventually face justice for everything they have done,” in a post on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink described the attack on the post office depot in Kharkiv as “horrific”. She stated: “Once again, shocking images of Russian violence against civilians in Ukraine overnight – a missile attack on a post office depot in Kharkiv took the lives of six people and seriously injured others. The Kremlin’s disregard for life is visible to the entire world. The United States supports Ukraine in seeking to hold Russia accountable,” in a social media post on Sunday, the 22nd.
Kharkiv, located in northeastern Ukraine, was liberated from Russian occupation by Kiev forces the previous year but remains the target of frequent airstrikes by Moscow. Russian troops are struggling to advance west towards Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine, while carrying out missile strikes in several regions.
