Special Counsel Jack Smith asked Judge Tanya Chutkan to issue a restraining order against former President Donald Trump due to his frequent social media attacks on individuals related to the trial that will culminate in the scheduled trial for attempted subversion of the 2020 elections. to start in March.

Smith filed his request in Washington federal court, expressing concern about Trump’s repeated attacks aimed at members of the Justice Department, residents of the US capital and Judge Chutkan herself. He argued that these attacks could frighten witnesses and the local jury, impacting the impartiality of the trial.

In his 19-page brief, the prosecutor noted that since his indictment in the case, the defendant has published derogatory and inflammatory posts almost daily on Truth Social, directed at citizens of the District of Columbia, the court, prosecutors and potential witnesses. Furthermore, he highlighted that Trump’s comments resulted in real threats from his supporters against prosecutors, the court and future jurors.

Smith asked the judge to prohibit Trump from making statements that are derogatory, incendiary and intimidating about anyone involved or potentially related to the case, as well as any statements about potential witnesses. Shortly after the motion filed by the special counsel, Trump resumed his criticism of Smith, referring to him as “out of control.” On his Truth Social platform, he posted: “Disseminate, distort and sue, and not allow me to speak?”
