“I worked on Subtract for a decade, trying to carve out the perfect acoustic album, writing and recording hundreds of songs with a clear vision of what I thought it should be. Then, in early 2022, a series of events changed my life, my life. mental health and finally the way I saw music and art,” said the singer in the publication about the new album.

In his text, Ed Sheeran also shared that his wife Cherry Seaborn, during her second pregnancy, had cancer: “Within a month, my pregnant wife was informed that she had a tumor, without treatment until after delivery. My best friend Jamal, a brother to me, died suddenly, and I found myself in court defending my integrity and career as a songwriter. I was in a spiral of fear, depression and anxiety. I felt like I was drowning, with my head below the surface, looking up but not being able to breathe”.
The singer referred to the album’s songs as the most personal of his career and disclosed their titles. “For the first time, I’m not trying to create an album that people like, I’m just releasing something that’s honest and true to where I am in my adult life”, he finished.
