Taylor Swift released this Friday (24), “Carolina”, a special track for the soundtrack of “Where the Crawdads Sing”. The song written by the singer is the first release since the album Evermore, in 2020.
The song was released at midnight, shortly after Swift posted a teaser on her Instagram. “About a year and half ago I wrote a song about an incredible story, the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in. Figuratively and literally. The juxtaposition of her loneliness and independence. Her longing and her stillness. Her curiosity and fear, all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness…and the world’s betrayal of it. I wrote this one alone in the middle of the night and then Aaron Dessner and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment in time when this story takes place. I made a wish that one day you would hear it. ‘Carolina’ is out now”, wrote the singer.

In March, Swift shared her love for the book written by Delia Owens, which won an adaptation by Sony Pictures.
“Where the Crawdads Sing” is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago. As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the amazing Daisy Edgar-Jones and produced by the brilliant Reese Witherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it on the musical side. I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story”, wrote Taylor.
In the drama, Catherine “Kya” Clarke is a young woman who grows up in a North Carolina swamp. Abandoned by her family in the early 1950s, Kya learns to survive on her own. She learns to read and write from her friend Tate Walker and falls in love with him, but is left behind once again when he leaves for college. Chase Andrews is a quarterback who lures Kya on a date with promises of marriage that will never materialize. After Kya ends their relationship, Chase attacks her and the unthinkable happens and secrets are revealed.
The cast includes Taylor John Smith, Harris Dickinson, Garret Dillahunt, Michael Hyatt, Ahna O’Reilly, Sterling Macer Jr. and Jojo Regina. While Olivia Newman is directing with a script by Lucy Alibar and production by Reese Witherspoon. The film is scheduled to be released in the United States on July 15.
