The possibility of Barbie’s protagonists being part of this new project had been speculated since last year. So far, details about the production are scarce, but it has been revealed that it is a prequel. The direction is by Jay Roach, known for works such as “The Scandal” and “Getting Cold”, while the script is written by Carrie Solomon, known for “A Family Affair”.

According to Variety, the plot will likely unfold in 1960s Europe. In an interview with GamesRadar, Josey McNamara, producer of the new film, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership between Robbie and Gosling, suggesting that this is just the beginning of many other projects in which the two will work together.
“They have wonderful chemistry together. The more projects we can have them cast on, the better,” said McNamara, who is also an executive representative for LuckyChap Entertainment, the company co-founded by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Sophia Kerr. The producer is involved with both “Barbie” and the new “Ocean’s Eleven” film. The most recent addition to the franchise was “Ocean’s 8,” released in 2018, starring Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Awkwafina, Cate Blanchett and others.
