In her Instagram account, Lupita posted some pictures of the cat, and told her fans that his name is Yoyo. “Introducing my new companion, Yoyo! I have historically been afraid of cats, but when my life was altered instantly recently, a little voice whispered to me that it was time to embrace change and new possibilities”, she wrote in the caption, seemingly alluding to her split from boyfriend Selema Masekela.

Lupita continued to explain that her friend helped her through the process and accompanied her on visits to animal shelters. She first started just fostering Yoyo, but after “three days into it” she wrote that “knew I could not give up on him”. She posted a carousel of pictures, including her posing in front of a pet adoption center. She also shared some photos of her alongside Yoyo.
The cat adoption comes just a few days after she announced her split from Selema Masekela. On October 19 she took to her Instagram and shared how she was feeling with the news. “At this moment, it is necessary for me to share a personal truth and publicly dissociate myself from someone I can no longer trust. I find myself in a season of heartbreak because of a love suddenly and devastatingly extinguished by deception”.
She also wrote that she was “choosing to face the pain … trusting that this too shall pass”, and that by sharing her personal update she was hoping to help others going through their own heartbreak.
