The Japanese, known for his work in visual effects and direction of features such as Space Battleship Yamato and Lupin III: The First, revealed to /Film that he became a director precisely because of the American franchise.

“I watched Star Wars and that’s how I ended up becoming a filmmaker,” he said. “I’m really hoping to get the call to be cast in Star Wars.”

It is worth remembering that ‘Godzilla Minus One’ is the first film in the Japanese franchise in seven years and marks the return of the Godzilla brand to Toho, the Japanese producer that released the first film in 1954.

The film is not a sequel to ‘Godzilla Shin’, released in 2016. It recently broke a historic milestone at the American box office.

As a result, the next Star Wars film will be directed by Taika Waititi. The project, however, has no defined title or revealed plot. The film will mark the return of Star Wars to cinemas after a break that has lasted since the release of The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

Since then, the saga has been focusing on TV, where it launched projects such as The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Godzilla Minus One is still showing in theaters.
