Date:

The Actors’ Union (SAG-AFTRA) strike, which has lasted more than 92 days, and appears to be far from a resolution.

As a result, in the last round of negotiations between the union and the studios (represented by the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, AMPTP), which took place last night (11), there was no progress.

Thus, also regarding the meeting, SAG-AFTRA, in an official statement, accused the studios of using “intimidation tactics” and stated that they left the negotiating table by refusing to consider the latest offer presented by the union, according to Variety .

“It is with deep disappointment that we report that industry CEOs have withdrawn from the negotiating table after refusing to counter our latest offer”

“We negotiated with them in good faith, despite the fact that last week they presented an offer that was , surprisingly, of a lower value than what they proposed before the strike began”, says the beginning of the statement.

The main issue lies in the union’s proposal to share streaming revenue, estimated at US$800 million per year by AMPTP.

However, SAG-AFTRA argues that this figure was inflated by 60% and that its proposal would represent a cost of just 57 cents per subscriber annually for streaming platforms.

Additionally, the union wants a share of streaming revenue for all productions covered by SAG-AFTRA, both productions made for streaming and films and TV shows licensed from other platforms.

“Companies are using the same failed strategy they tried to impose on the WGA – releasing misleading information in an attempt to trick our members into abandoning our solidarity and putting pressure on our negotiators. But just like the writers, our members are smarter than they are. this and will not be deceived”, the statement continues.

AMPTP also issued a statement with its position: “After significant conversations, it is clear that the difference between AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA is too great, and the conversations are no longer taking us in a productive direction. We hope that SAG -AFTRA reconsiders and returns to productive negotiations soon.”

The strike in the category is close to the duration of the 1980 strike, which lasted 95 days.
