Manchester United say forward Marcus Rashford “has taken responsibility for his actions”, after being spotted in Northern Ireland nightspots on Wednesday (24) and Thursday (25) night.

Rashford missed training on Friday (26), after reporting ill. He also didn’t feature in Sunday’s (28) 4-2 FA Cup win over Newport. United released a statement saying that “This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed”.

The forward is back in training and will be available for selection for United’s Premier League trip to Wolves on Thursday (1). United boss Erik ten Hag spoke after Sunday’s game and said: “He reported ill. The rest is an internal matter and I will deal with that”.

This isn’t the first time Rashford has been in trouble this season. In November, he was withdrawn from the starting line-up for the defeat against Newcastle in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup as a disciplinary measure.

The reason was that Ten Hag didn’t like him celebrating his birthday in one of Manchester’s most exclusive nightspots, just hours after he had been involved in an abject 3-0 defeat against Manchester City.

He was also benched for United’s Premier League game against Wolves last season after falling asleep and arriving late for a team meeting. Rashford has only scored four goals for United this season, after reaching a career best of 30 goals last season.
