This was a second approach from Bayern for Trippier, and the German club was willing to pay £12m-£13m, but Newcastle rejected the offer on Tuesday (23). Earlier this January, Newcastle chief executive Darren Eales revealed that they may have to sell players, to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules.

Trippier joined Newcastle from Atlético de Madrid for £12 million in January 2022. He has made 62 Premier League appearances for the Magpies and has regularly captained Howe’s side this season.

Newcastle is struggling with several key absences this season. Nine first-team players are currently out through injury or illness. On Tuesday (18), they confirmed that midfielder Joelinton has had surgery on the thigh injury he sustained on January 6.
