Although Nadal has not yet made an official statement about his participation in the tournament, some confirmed names include Andy Murray, Andrey Rublev (number 5 in the world rankings) and Daniil Medvedev, the current champion. Nadal was away from the court for approximately a year due to hip surgery. Although he competed in January at the ATP in Brisbane, during the quarterfinals, he felt the injury again.
Announcing his absence from the Australian Open, Nadal stated: “At this time, I am not prepared to compete at the maximum level of rigor in five-set matches. Despite the sad news of not being able to play in front of the incredible Melbourne crowd, we all remain positive with the evolution of the season.”
