The speculations seem to be true. Last Sunday (21), through social media and official websites, Patrick Lefevere, director of Soudal Quick-Step, commented on the possibilities of installing a new financing and planning model that could shake up the structures of professional cycling.

“Do you know why I believe in the One Cycling project? Because if there are four or five teams involved, it could work. It’s always the same song. There are a lot of negative people in cycling. If we sit still, nothing will happen. If you want a miracle, go to Lourdes, but if we want things to change, we have to work on it and work in the same direction,” said Patrick Lefevere.

The EF Education-Easypost, Lidl-Trek, Ineos Grenadiers, Bora-Hansgrohe and Soudal Quick-Step teams demonstrated their determination to develop the project. “I think everyone understands that we need to find some way to collaborate to strengthen the income model of professional cycling. It is in the interest of all of us. I don’t believe there is any other path for the future than to collaborate”, said the businessman.

Patrick Lefevere confirmed the value of the new project, placing it as something superior to what is already established in the professional category, stating that in this way, cycling can become stronger, bigger and with new benefits, not only for athletes, teams, but for companies.
