Brazilian player Marta received a tribute during the FIFA The Best award ceremony this Monday, 15th, in London. As a six-time winner of the Best in the World award, Marta was awarded the Puskás Prize. From the next edition onwards, the most beautiful goal among women will bear her name. In a historic milestone for the entity, this is the first time that the honor has been awarded to an active athlete.

During her emotional speech, Marta expressed her difficulty in containing her emotions when taking the stage. She thanked her teammates, the technical team, her family and highlighted the importance of the tribute. Marta emphasized the desire for all women to see a promising future in any activity, not just football. She highlighted the daily search for equality and respect, transmitting a message of encouragement to all those capable of positively influencing through their actions.

“Because what we seek daily, through what God destined us to do, is to seek to make the world better for everyone. Without distinction. It is to seek equality, respect. I leave here this message for all those who have the power to convey this message through what you do”, said the athlete.

The Brazilian star, who said goodbye to the World Cups in the last edition in Australia and New Zealand, continues to perform at a high level and plans to participate in the Paris Olympic Games in July, representing the Brazilian team. Currently playing for Orlando Pride, Marta also serves as an ambassador for UN Women, dedicating herself to working for gender equality and women’s empowerment globally.
