“I hope we win at the start and during the 2024 season. Last year we won the whole season, but we also had some disappointments, for example the Giro d’Italia, which we could have won. You have to invent yourself every few years, otherwise other teams overtake you. We invest in pilots and employees. We have young people, new ideas. There was a need to freshen things up,” said Soudal Quick-Step CEO Patrick Lefevere.

During the press conference, Patrick Lefevere was asked about the events related to the possible merger of Soudal Quick-Step with Jumbo-Visma. The businessman’s response surprised everyone, as he stated that the withdrawal from the union ended up destabilizing the team and that it was a painful period for everyone.

“You are not stupid to make the same mistakes. If you’re smart, you turn the page. We won’t forget what happened, but today is a new day. As I like to say: ‘Today is the first day of the rest of my life’. I want to look forward and win again with these guys.”

Concluding the press conference, Patrick Lefevere and Remco Evenepoel revealed that the team for the Tour de France was still being organized but that it would potentially be strong enough to face other competitors. The cyclist will start the 2024 season with the Volta ao Algarve, on February 14th.
