While awards season seemed headed toward an expected “Barbenheimer” duel, this round was dominated by “Oppenheimer.” The film not only secured the best director award for Nolan, but also received honors in categories such as best drama actor for Cillian Murphy, best supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr. and best soundtrack, credited to Ludwig Göransson.

In addition to its win for best comedy or musical, “Poor Creatures” was highlighted by Emma Stone’s performance as Bella, a Victorian woman immersed in a surreal life and sexual awakening. Lily Gladstone made history when she received the award for best actress in a dramatic film for her performance in “Killers of the Flower Moon”, directed by Martin Scorsese. In her speech, Gladstone began speaking in the language of her native tribe, the Blackfeet Nation, and expressed the collective importance of her victory, being the first indigenous winner in this category.

The 81st Golden Globe Awards marked a new and uncertain chapter, with the dissolution of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association after years of tumult and scandal. The awards show is now in a new home (CBS), looking to regain its status as the third biggest awards event of the year, after the Oscars and Grammys. Even the menu has been revamped, now featuring Nobu sushi. “Golden Globes journalists, thank you for changing the game and thus changing the name of the award,” Downey expressed in his speech.
