South Korean actor Lee Sun-kyun, known for his participation in the Oscar and Palme d’Or-winning film Parasite (2019), was found dead, aged 48, this Wednesday (27).

As a result, the artist was located by the police inside a car, in a park in Seoul, the South Korean capital. An official statement explained that officers received a missing person report filed by Lee’s manager.

As AP News mentions, South Korean media outlets, such as the Yonhap agency, reported that Lee left a message similar to a suicide note before leaving home.

Lee Sun-kyun was one of the names involved in a wide investigation related to the use of illegal drugs in South Korea. The actor had already been questioned by the police three times since October 2023.

South Korea has strict drug laws and drug crimes are typically punishable by at least six months in prison or up to 14 years for repeat offenders and drug dealers.

Lee Sun-kyun gained worldwide recognition as the protagonist Park Dong-ik (father of the rich family) in Parasite. He was also nominated for Best Actor at the 2022 International Emmy Awards for Dr. Brain.

Furthermore, the artist’s CV also includes productions such as Sleep (2023), Killing Romance (2023), All About My Wife (2012), Helpless (2012), Petty Romance (2010), Behind The White Tower (2007) and Coffee Prince (2007).
