Former NBA star turned television personality Charles Barkley has expressed criticism of former President Trump for his recent statements on immigration. Barkley said he cannot support someone who uses rhetoric he considers pseudo-racist, especially someone who is running for the most powerful office in the world.

He highlighted his irritation with Trump’s statements, emphasizing that people have the right to vote for whoever they want, but he personally disagrees with this approach. The criticism directed at Trump refers to the former president’s recent statements about the flow of immigrants at the southern border of the United States.

Trump was the target of widespread criticism for his descriptions of the illegal entry of millions of people into the country, saying they were “poisoning the blood of our country.”

Barkley also mentioned past episodes, such as Trump’s tweet during his first term in which he suggested that immigrant Democratic congresswomen “go back to where they came from.”  This isn’t the first episode Barkley has criticized Trump, previously calling the former president’s supporters “crazy.” It’s worth noting that Barkley launched a new weekly primetime show on CNN this fall, in partnership with journalist Gayle King.
