“I always wanted to do the Giro. It’s one of my favorite races because it’s close to Slovenia and as kids we loved watching the Giro and going to the stages. I have some best memories from the Giro, when Luka Mezgec won a stage in Tieste. I was there and it was an unforgettable moment”, said the athlete.
Tadej Pogocar continued to report on his desire to participate in the Italian competition: “It was always a dream to be in the Giro. Then came the United Arab Emirates, the first race to do the Vuelta a España and then the Tour and it was such a success that it never came time for the Giro. I’m not so young anymore and I think I can do two Grand Tours. I probably could have done it sooner, but it’s a good time to have a new challenge in my career.”
During the press conference, the athlete was asked about his objective of winning both competitions, which he denied, stating that he wanted to win and give priority to the World Championship, which will be held in Zurich, Switzerland, in September. The cyclist also commented that preparation for the competitions will be different from those held in recent years.
