The Hollywood actors’ strike seems closer to ending. This is because SAG-AFTRA, the US actors’ union, and representatives of the major studios will resume negotiations to put an end to the strike this Thursday (2).
++ ‘Barbie’ screenwriter thought the film was a bad idea
The information is from The Hollywood Reporter. As a result, the two sides had a conversation last Wednesday (1), and the debate revolved around the use of artificial intelligence in Hollywood productions.
According to THR sources, the conversations were not fruitful and the use of AIs proved to be the main obstacle in these negotiations. Thus, according to SAG-AFTRA, large studios have used artificial intelligence to explore the work of artists.
++ Marvel has plans to produce a new film featuring the original Avengers characters
An extra, for example, would shoot a scene for a film or series, but would have their image reused through AI in different productions — often without being informed and certainly without being paid for this work.
The strike not only prevents the filming of many projects that feature interpreters affiliated with SAG, but also prevents these actors from participating in press events for films that are already completed.
It is worth remembering that SAG-AFTRA also counted on additional pressure from the screenwriters, who went on strike in May, but reached an agreement to review the contracts in October. With the end of the WGA strike, some productions have already resumed activities.
