Patricia Arquette, a cinema icon from the 1990s, known for her memorable films such as ‘Closet-Blank Love’, recognized the importance of overcoming her own prejudices when choosing Camila Morrone, Leonardo DiCaprio’s ex-girlfriend, as the protagonist of her film debut as a director, ‘Gonzo Girl’. The film does not yet have a set release date in theaters. When presenting the production at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival, Arquette made a point of expressing his gratitude to the actress he chose for the lead role, in addition to admitting that he had initially judged Morrone solely based on her appearance.

“When I first watched her audition, it was incredible, but I asked myself, ‘Is she really pretty?'” Arquette confessed. “And then, I realized, ‘Wait a minute. Wait a minute. I have my own self-conscious biases. Why am I trying to say, ‘No, you can only be pretty, that’s it’? That’s not right.”

Patricia Arquette praised the talented actress of Argentine descent, who also recently stood out in the series ‘Daisy Jones & the Six’, for proving that beauty and acting ability are not intrinsically linked.
“You gave an incredible performance. You have this gift and something in your heart that you long to share,” said the now director during the panel in Toronto. “I’m not going to restrict you in any way. And your performance is incredible. I’m so grateful to you, Cami, for everything you brought to the film.”
