Nikki Haley loses Nevada primary even without Trump on the ballot

Date:

Republican candidate Nikki Haley suffered a defeat on Tuesday (6) after the majority of Nevada voters chose the “neither candidate” option, rather than voting for her to represent the party in the United States presidential election.

As a result, the name of her main rival, Donald Trump, was not on the ballot — that is, she was the only candidate.

The result represents an embarrassment for the candidate, who has sought to position herself as a voting option for Republicans, in place of the former president.

However, she became the first presidential candidate from any party to lose a race to “none of these candidates” since that option was introduced in Nevada in 1975. With 86% of the votes counted, “none” was chosen by 63% from Republicans; Haley, by 31%.

With that, former President Trump stated that he is more focused on the political conventions that will be held this Thursday (7), than on Nevada.

The expectation, according to experts, is that he will win the majority of states and be the Republican nominee for the election.
