On Friday, during a campaign rally, Trump apparently confused Haley with then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Addressing the attack perpetrated by his followers, Trump told the crowd: “Nikki Haley is responsible for security. We offered 10,000 people – soldiers, National Guard, whatever they wanted – and they refused. They didn’t want to talk about it.” Haley, seen as Trump’s main opponent in the New Hampshire primary, clarified that not only was she not in charge of Capitol security, but she also did not hold that position at the time.
“My concern is, without disrespect, that when we’re dealing with the pressures of a presidency, we can’t have another person who we doubt their mental capacity,” the former UN ambassador said at a rally in New Hampshire. Trump’s suggestion that Pelosi – or Haley – had rejected the offer of help during the invasion of the Capitol also raised questions. The House committee charged with investigating the attack said it had found no evidence that such a proposal had been put forward.
