Donald Trump expressed his congratulations to Javier Milei for his victory in the second round of the presidential elections in Argentina, which took place this Sunday (19).

“Congratulations to Javier Milei on his remarkable candidacy for president of Argentina. The whole world was watching! I am extremely proud of you. You will transform your country and truly make Argentina great again,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. In his text, the Republican alluded to his campaign motto “Make America Great Again”. Milei surpassed the government candidate and current Economy Minister, Sergio Massa (Unión por la Patria), in the second round, who had won in the first round on October 22.

At 9:21 pm, with 97.4% of the votes counted, Milei had 55.76% of the votes, while Massa had 44.23%. Massa acknowledged defeat even before the first partial was released.
Milei’s inauguration is scheduled for December 10th. In the first round, Milei came in second place, managing to reverse the situation this Sunday. This turnaround in the second round is a feat that had only been previously achieved in 2015 by Mauricio Macri.
