Last Thursday (16), in an interview with the Danish outlet Ritzau, Jonas Vingegaard left his followers and fans with doubts about his participation in the Paris Olympic Games next year. The cyclist said he is not sure if he will be selected in the competition’s road race.

“I hope to be selected, but I wouldn’t be surprised if I’m not. It may be that the national coach chooses another four. I told Anders Lund that I’m interested in walking. But he explained to me that it is not certain that I will be selected, even if I want to. I also understand that well”, said the athlete.

The cyclist continued to report that he has doubts about his potential and staying in the world competition: “I still have the dream of participating in the Olympics at some point, but I don’t think the route is particularly suitable for me. There are so many good drivers in Denmark and when there are only four places, nothing is certain.”
With dates approaching, Jonas Vingegaard’s question opens up possibilities for the athlete to be confirmed in the UCI Road World Championship, which will take place between September 21st and 29th next year, in Zurich – Switzerland, with a route already known to the cyclist.
“I think I’ll cycle in Zurich. It’s a little safer, because there’s room for more riders and because the route suits my type of rider better. There may not be that many Danes for whom this type of route is suitable. Of course you can always find a better way, but this is probably one of the best I have experienced at a World Championship,” he concluded.
